Our last stop of the trip was at Stratford on Avon. We stayed at the Arden hotel in Stratford, and I really didn't take pictures of it. It was a perfectly nice, and modern hotel. Nothing I found of interest. But Stratford on Avon had many points of interest. We spent a lot of time at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Museum, which is where we had our classes and stitched. We also had tours of New Place, and Anne Hathaway's Cottage, and had a backstage tour of the Shakespeare Theater and saw their huge storeroom of costumes. It was impressive! But no pictures were allowed.
Sara Thursfield, Author of the Medieval Tailor's Assistant, gave a talk titled "From Medieval to Elizabethan and 17th Century Costume" that was quite interesting. She brought a number of pieces of late period embroidered garments that were really interesting. The following pictures are modern pieces made and embroidered by Sara, based on extant garments.
Having lunch at a pub in Stratford-on-Avon! After lunch we walked along the river to the Shakespeare Theater and toured the theater. The highlight was the gigantic storeroom filled with every kind of costume you can imagine. In all sizes! It was a cosplayers dream come true!
