York is the start of the All England Pt II Embroidery Tour. I took the first train out of Kings Cross train station (0630, ugh!), and then took a cab to the Dean Hotel. I upgraded to First Class on the train as at that hour there wasn't that much difference in price. It was well worth it. I was waited on the whole trip and had a full English breakfast.
The hotel is directly across the street from the York Minster, and my palatial room overlooked the square in front of the Minster. Perfect location, and beautiful view. Though it was a bit noisy, as it seems that's where people gather at night to party. I even saw a wedding in front of the Minster.
York is a beautiful city. I really enjoyed visiting there! I got to wander around a bit and see some of the shops. There is a street called "The Shambles" which is the setting they used for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter. Loads of little, crooked streets. But the spire of the Minster towered over everything so I was always able to find my way back to the hotel. York is definitely one place I'd like to go back to.
