We are staying at The George in Stamford, a former church and former coaching inn. It’s a beautiful, historical inn made of stone blocks and wood beams. There were even fires in the fireplaceslocated throughout the public rooms, and live candles on the dinner tables. My room was small, but comfortable. But it’s a good thing I’m not tall! The doorway to my room was only a few inches tallerthan me.

After we arrived at the inn from York, we changed tutors and went on to the next project. This project is a beautiful goldwork border about two inches wide by about 10 inches long. We are stitching on the most amazing silk velvet I’ve ever seen! I would love to make a dress from it, but I understand the foot square piece we are working with was about $100! That’s a bit too much for my pocketbook. I’m really looking forward to stitching this beautiful piece done in both gold and silver threads. We will be seeing the original piece tomorrow at Hardwick Hall.

During the lesson, I mentioned to our tutor, Allison Cole, that I was lusting after a book called “The Embroideries of Hardwick Hall: a Catalogue” by Santana Levy. It is going for about  $500 on Amazon!  Allison showed me a Website called bookfinder.com, which finds the book for sale around the world and compares prices.  We found it for €100 on Amazon in Spain!!!  That’s about $110!  Immediately ordered it. The funny thing was my Amazon login would not work (probably something to do with being in the UK). So I ordered it through Allison’s Amazon account. The wonders of global commerce!
